Bring Omar Deghayes Home
Save Omar! Meet
opposite Brighton Conference Centre.
Despite many letters to the Home Secretary from Omar's legal
team and promises made by Des Turner over the last several
months Charles Clarke recently said at a meeting that he
'knew nothing about the case of Omar Deghayes'.
Omar has,
along with many other detainees at Guantanamo Bay lost hope
and is now on hunger strike. We will be confronting the
people who have done absolutely nothing to extract British
residents who are locked away in the Hell-hole that is a
vile stain on democracy and one of many on the Labour Party!
Please come
along and scream out for justice for local resident Omar
Deghayes.
Speakers
so far confirmed: Tony Benn

GET INVOLVED
In 2003 in Brighton around 5000 people brought
the city to a halt on the day of the outbreak of hostilities in
Iraq. Sussex Action for Peace is calling for a similar response
to any hostilities in Iran. Sussex Action for Peace usually meets fortnightly.
We campaign against the occupation of Afghanistan
and Iraq and US and UK foreign policy. We are not aligned to any
political party and represent a wide range of political views. We always need more people to get involved.

SAVE OMAR DEGHAYES CAMPAIGN
Omar
Deghayes is a 35 year old married man and father, originally from
Libya, but a resident of Saltdean since 1987, who was arrested
in Pakistan and has been held in solitary confinement in Camp
Delta, Cuba since 2002.
Left: - Omar's Mother, holding a photo of her
son, with his sister & brother in their home in Saltdean.
He has not been charged with any offence and the only evidence produced against him is a video tape, which the Americans claim links Mr Deghayes with terrorists but which experts have dismissed as a case of mistaken identity.
His lawyer Clive Stafford Smith claims his client has been tortured by American soldiers, leaving him blind in one eye.
The British Government, which had previously claimed it could not help, as he is a British resident, not a British national, has bowed to public pressure, and agreed to present the family's concerns about his treatment to US officials.
We his supporters believe he should be charged and tried or released back to the U.K., and not to Libya from whence his family fled persecution and where he would certainly be in mortal danger. We do not claim his innocence or guilt but his human rights and entitlement to due process.
What you can do
1. Write a letter of support to Omar,
in as many languages as you can, and e-mail it to jackie.chase@virgin.net
who will send it on to his lawyer, and copy it to Charles Clarke
and Jack Straw if you wish.
2. Send
gifts of eye-patches, shampoo, toothpaste, books, particularly
poetry, music, boxer shorts, and anything else you can think of
to Omar Deghayes,c/o Brighton Peace and Environment Centre, 39-41
Surrey St, Brighton BN1 3PB. His lawyer will despatch these things
to Camp Delta.

Campaign against local arms manufacturer Edo/MBM.
You May Not Know This!
EDO MBM Technologies Ltd, Home Farm Road, Moulescoombe is a wholly
owned subsidiary of the multinational arms manufacturing company,
EDO Corporation. In Brighton EDO MBM are manufacturing bomb racks,
release clips, arming mechanisms & targeting equipment all of
which has been used in Iraq. It is a glaring hypocrisy that this
company is allowed to operate in Brighton as Brighton & Hove is
a UN Peace Messenger City.
SmashEdo is campaigning to remove EDO MBM Technologies Ltd from
Brighton.

Support is Growing!
As news of EDO's draconian injunction attempt spreads, the campaign
has received lots of support from diverse people in Brighton and
beyond, including in no particular order: Mark Thomas, the McLibel
Two, Tony Benn, Andrew Murray (Stop The War Coalition), Kate Hudson
(CND), Matt Foot (ASBO Concern), Anna Jones (Campaign Against
the Arms Trade), Doug Jewell (Liberty), Paddy O'Keefe (RESPECT)
and Caroline Lucas & Keith Taylor (Green Party). We will not be
silenced.
The company have dropped their court
action and no injuction now exists. In addition every charge against
any protestor has now been dropped dispite 2 people each serving
a week in remand in Lewes Prison. It is estimated this foolish
venture by the company has cost them £1 Million and their
MD David Jones has resigned.
